I am finally getting around to sharing my favorite flat lay styling accessories and props that I have collected over the years! I use them in pretty much every stationery or product photo I take and bring them to styled and branding shoots with me.
Please note that this post contains affiliate links and that I link these products because of their quality – I really love them and wouldn’t recommend them otherwise!
I searched high and low for a vintage tray that did not cost a fortune and was pretty, so when I stumbled across this beauty I knew it would be perfect to lay invite suites and other products on. Doesn’t it look so pretty in flat lay photos?!
I also collect small dishes, ring holders, plates, and treys from antique stores or places like the ReStore.
I love these handmade chiffon silk ribbon sample packs by Lings’ Moments. They come in the perfect amount to use in a flat lay and to wrap around a wooden spool. I have the sample packs in Green, Nude, Dusty Rose, and French Ultramarine Blue.
Ling’s Moments also has handmade chiffon fridge silk ribbon packs that come in the same color and these are great too! I used the grey ribbon for an invite suite and have leftovers for styling. These sari silk ribbon spools are awesome too!
I also have some silk ribbon from Illume Silks that I recommend as well!
Speaking of spools, these wooden spools are great and come in a variety of sizes. You could even stain these if you wanted a different wood color.
I get all my fabrics such as chiffon and cheesecloth from local fabric stores like Joann fabrics. I like to touch the fabrics and see the colors in person. Amazon, Etsy and small biz shops like Illume Silks are also good online places to find these too.
As much as I would love to buy a Mrs. Box, I just can’t justify a $75+ ring box so I use these velvet ring boxes by Koyal pictured below and they do just the trick! They come in many different colors, sizes and shapes and you can get 4 for the price of one Mrs. Box.
I found these gold plated scissors and they are just the right size to include in flat lays!
I use a stamp that has a wooden handle and one that has a brass vintage handle. Both are great! For wax seals, I use leftovers from projects and also make my own!
I bought this collection of worldwide stamps and use a few for each photo! The collection comes with 200 stamps so I have not needed anymore.
I use these acrylic styling blocks to add depth and dimension to the flay lay. You can put these under the invitation, envelope, inserts, etc. to raise it up and create a shadow.
So where to organize alllllll the flat lay styling accessories and props?! I found this storage box from Michael’s and it is perfect because it has a built-in tray and storage underneath. I store all my ribbons/spools, seals, ring boxes, and smaller items in the tray and trays/dishes, cloths, etc. underneath it.
These can be sooo expensive and if you know me you know I am all about DIYing all the things. So, I made two flay lat surfaces that I use for my photos. One is wood with drywall mud layered on top (see the white background in the photo below) and the other is two fabric-wrapped-foamboards glued together. Tutorials for these coming soon!!
